MUHAS hosts the East African Centre of Excellence in Cardiovascular Sciences project, an East African regional initiative aiming to conduct high-calibre research that will inform policy and improve the health of the people in East Africa. All Cardiovascular medicine research and training take place at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) which serves as the tertiary referral hospital for cardiovascular diseases in Tanzania.

As a clinical site for the AI4HF research, MUHAS will provide invaluable input to this relatively new area of research. Being a high-volume hospital attending to mainly native African patients, JKCI brings to the consortium diversity, and it will include representative information on clinical cardiology practice from a typical low-middle-income setting in sub-Saharan Africa.
